Tips for Digital Interviews – Campus 2017
As part of our Campus application we will be sending short-listed candidates an invitation to complete an online digital interview. In order to help those who will be completing this interview, here’s some advice and tips to be considered as you prepare to make your impression:
Absolutely, We are a Global firm that is currently in over 120 countries. I would encourage you to visit the Global Opportunities section of our careers site to learn more about these opportunities and read about some of our people's global experiences.
We do hire students in this position, but admittedly not many for January starts. Our training is on an annual schedule so it is difficult for us to accommodate those who wish to start at other times of the year. I would recommend that you still apply in the fall. We hire many people each fall that have already graduated, as well those who are beginning their fourth year.
A significant portion of your time is spent at a client's site. This much exposure on-site with clients ensures that you gain as much experience as possible working on files, learning to interact with clients, working in a team atmosphere and enjoying the fact that each new day brings new experiences!
Our clients are as diverse as they come and we like to have our people reflect our diverse client base. Finding unconventional common ground with a client can be a great help on engagements. Many people who work at the firm currently don't come from a strict Commerce background and that's something else that makes Grant Thornton such a great place to work.
Business casual, defined by clothing that is appropriate for meetings with clients, is the dress code we follow during normal business hours. We are a professional office and must remember that our image impacts our credibility with our clients and potential clients. Depending on client engagements, regular business attire may at times be more appropriate than business casual.
In short, the culture here is very entrepreneurial. Those who thrive are those who have a genuine interest in understanding and helping others. As well, those who are intellectually curious, exceptional critical thinkers and intent on making difference in everything they do. Using these attributes to execute on our brand promise - to help our clients unlock their potential for growth - typically ensures success at all levels.
As a general rule, we are looking for a solid B+ average.
Later in your career, dictated by your interest and career requirements, we will further support the pursuit of other designations, e.g., CBV and In-Depth tax.
We developed a comprehensive CFE preparation program designed to help you achieve your CPA designation. We lead you through the process and reinforce the concepts necessary to ensure success!
There are four main components to our program:
We strive to provide support to all students pursuing CPA related designations.
Our CFE writers consistently deliver a strong performance, typically achieving a national pass rate beyond the national pass rate. In addition to numerous medal winners and writers who made Honour Roll, we are able to boast of three national gold medalists in the past several years.
Your performance will be continuously reviewed and evaluated by those responsible for supervising and managing your work assignments. Much of this feedback is ongoing and will be given informally on the job. Job specific performance feedback forms are also prepared periodically and will be discussed with you during feedback interviews.
You will be assigned a coach and will received feedback on your performance throughout the year. We also encourage you to seek out feedback on an ongoing basis.
In addition, you will receive an annual performance review that provides you with an opportunity to discuss your career progress over the past year and set out goals for career development.
In addition to strong academic credentials, we select people based on their ability to deliver our brand promise - to help our clients unlock their potential for growth. This requires an ability to offer insights by combining both reason and instinct; by being intellectually curious and applying exceptional critical thinking skills. We look for people with demonstrated potential to be more than a technical advisor - people with broad perspectives and experiences, and an exceptional ability to build meaningful relationships. Those who thrive in our environment are highly engaged and work hard to make a difference every day for our clients, our colleagues and the communities across Canada in which we work and live.
Making a good first impression is really important and there are a couple of things you can do to help set yourself apart. Campus recruiters take notice of the students who demonstrate the initiative and confidence to come up and introduce themselves. Don't worry about running through your resume when you meet a recruiter- we are just looking for students who are friendly, confident and have a genuine interest in learning more about our firm. Before campus recruitment events, it doesn't hurt to take a look at our website and talk to any friends who work here, so you can come armed with a few questions. That really shows us you are interested and can help set you apart from other students!
Absolutely! We are really looking for the right people who have a genuine interest in that particular area. Just make sure when applying that you apply separately to each office you are interested in working for. If you have a connection to a particular are (grew up there, family lives there, spent summer there etc.) be sure to point it out in your cover letter.
I will cover a cross section of what diversity means at Grant Thornton:
Diversity at Grant Thornton means a work environment filled with employees from different countries and with different life experiences. Diversity means inclusiveness initiatives and a Women of Grant Thornton Leadership Counsel. Diversity also applies to our clients, which span many different industries. Diversity also applies to all of the community initiatives that we support and are actively involved in, both as a firm and as individuals representing Grant Thornton.
Together with the Quebec firm Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton, Grant Thornton in Canada has more than 4,000 people working in over 120 locations. Grant Thornton LLP is a Canadian member of Grant Thornton International Ltd, whose member firms have over 585 offices worldwide and are represented in over 100 countries.
We believe that the first few months in a new job are very important. We provide our new hires with an orientation program designed to get them off to a good start by introducing them to their colleagues, work responsibilities and the policies and practices of the fir
The orientation period lasts several months. It begins with an entry interview or briefing session on the first day, followed closely by a series of training experiences and job assignments during which you receive special attention and supervision. The orientation period concludes with a formal performance review after approximately 4-6 months.
When recruiting new team members, we look for a wide variety of qualities that we believe to be critical to success in our profession - top marks are just the starting point. We look for people with passion and enthusiasm and a burning desire to make a difference. As well, we look for intellectually curious people who can provide insight, not just knowledge, and those who can easily make connections and build relationships.
